Online Gambling Tips > Baccarat Rules

The gambling rules of baccarat are elementary and easy to follow. Once you learn it's effortless to remember and you will most certainly feel fully comfortable playing it online, or even sitting at any baccarat table and mini baccarat table in a casino.

Many online gambling casinos offer free software downloads for this game, and if you are a beginner you will especially find it easy to play right along. In fact most people find it to be much easier to learn (even teach) by downloading the game from a real casino (one with free play) and reading along while tinkering with the software. Some of the 'instructional' software that you will find tends to be so complex that you are left a little confused instead of clear about rules and how to play.

When gambling in the game of baccarat you are given the choice of either wagering on the banker hand winning, the player hand winning, or a tie between the two. Players are dealt two cards and the banker is dealt two cards. If the hand that you are wagering on wins, you win even money. Even money wagers are when your profit is the same as your bet. For example, if you bet $10 you win back that $10, plus $10 more. If you wager on a tie and there is in fact a tie, you are paid 8 to 1. For example, if you wager $10 on a tie to win, you get the $10 wager back, plus $80 more.

The objective of your two-card hand is to try and have a total that is close to 9. Tens and face cards have a value of 0. Aces are worth 1, and cards 2-9 are worth their face value. The easiness of baccarat rules mirror the easiness of the scoring and objective itself. Although there is no such thing as going 'bust' (like in blackjack), when your two card total is a two digit number, the first digit is dropped. For example, if you are dealt a pair of eights, the total is 16, but the count is set to 6, dropping the first digit.

If the first two cards of a hand total 8 or 9 the hand is proclaimed a 'natural' and wins unless there is a tie between to naturals. If either hand is a natural, both hands stand, and the natural wins. If the total is not a natural win on either hand, another card is drawn  for each hand to determine the winner. Winning banker hands are usually charged around 5% by the casino. Remember, any one can be the banker, not just a casino employee. Knowing this is enough to realize and gain the advantage at baccarat. If the casinos take a cut of just one hand, you know that just one hand has a good chance of winning.
