You will find that bluffing comes in
different types. The different reasons
for bluffing will depend on the cards
you are holding, what you think the
other players at the table are holding,
and what you think they believe you
have. It also depends on if you are
online gambling or betting in a regular
casino.
Below we have provided you with the
three basic types of bluffs.
Betting/Raising with a poor hand
: With this type of bluff,
you have a hopeless or weak hand, but
you portray it as a strong hand. The
technique is reversible too. You will no
doubt run into a player that acts as
thought they are holding a bad hand
when, in fact, they have a great hand.
This is done to simply keep opponents in
the game longer and to increase the size
of the pot.
Betting/Raising when it does not
cost much : Players use this type of
bluff basically to obtain a free card
later in the hand when the cost is
usually double.
Betting a semi-bluff : When
you bet with a semi-bluff, you really
have two different ways that you could
win if successful.
- Your opponent might think you
(the bluffer) really have what you are
implying you do, and they fold their
hand.
- If your opponent calls, you
(the bluffer) might catch the card your
opponent is looking for and you win.
By betting with a semi-bluff you are
essentially betting with a hand when, if
called, isn't necessarily a pat hand or
a guaranteed winner at the time, but
still has a reasonable chance to out
draw the hand(s) that initially called
it in the first place.
