3-way Craps - This is a
bet made in units of 3 with one unit on 2, one unit on 3,
and one unit on 12. This is simply a horn bet without the
bet on 11.
Aces - This is betting that the
next roll will total the number two (snake eyes).
Any Craps - This is a bet that
the next roll will be 2, 3, or 12. You should also note that
this bet pays 7:1 and has a house edge of 11.1%.
Any Seven - This is a bet that
the next roll will be 7. You should also note that this bet
pays 4:1 and has a house edge of 16.7%.
Arm - This is a term used in
craps to signify a player who is so skilled at throwing the
dice that they are able to alter the conventional odds of
the game. While many players consider this type of player to
be an urban legend, it might just be one of the reasons that
casino craps dealers are so insistent that the dice are
thrown against the far wall to ensure a fair and completely
random outcome.
Backline - Same term as Don't
Pass Line.
Behind the Line - This is a bet
on the free-odds after a point has been established on the
Come Out Roll.
Betting Right - This is when
you bet that the throw will win on Pass Line and Come Bets.
Betting Wrong - This is when
you bet that the throw will not pass on Don't Pass Line and
Don't Come bets.
Big Eight - This is a bet that
an 8 will be rolled before a 7 is rolled. You should also
know that this bet pays even money, and has a house edge of
9.1%. A place bet on 8 pays 7:6 but is the same otherwise.
The place bet is preferred, having a house edge of only
1.5%.
Big Six - This is a bet that a
6 will be rolled before a 7 is rolled. You should also know
that this bet pays even money, and has a house edge of 9.1%.
A place bet on 6 pays 7:6 but is the same otherwise. The
place bet is bet is preferred, having a house edge of only
1.5%.
Big Red - This is a bet on Any
Seven.
Bones - This is simply a slang
term for dice.
Boxcars - This is a bet on the
next roll being a 12. You should take note that this is the
highest (last) denomination on the dice. Boxcars are also
the last cars on a train.
Box Man - This is the table
supervisor who sits between the stickman and directly behind
the thousands of dollars worth of chips that the casino
keeps on hand at each craps table. Like a Pit Boss or Floor
Men.
Buffalo - This is when a bet is
placed on the Hard Way as well as Any Seven.
Buy Bet (Buy and Lay Bet) -
This is when the house is given a 5% commission in order to
be paid correct odds for a place bet. Buy and lay bets are
made the same way as a place bet, but at correct odds. You
should also know that the buy bets on 4 and 10 allow the
player chance to reduce the house edge from 6.67% to 4% on
these bets. You will find that some casinos collect this
commission at the time the bet is made, while other casinos
collect it only on winning bets.
Capped Dice - This is the same
term as crooked dice or non standard dice.
Cold Table - This is term used
when shooters are not making their points or winning at this
table at the current moment.
Come Bet - This is the same as
the Pass Line bet but it is made after the Come Out roll.
Come Box - This is the area on
the table where the Come Bet is made.
Come Out Roll - This is the
first roll of the dice in a betting round and determines the
point for Pass and Don't Pass Line bets. Basically Pass bets
win when the Come Out Roll is 7 or 11, while Pass bets lose
when the Come Out Roll is 2, 3, or 12. Don't bets lose when
the Come Out Roll is 7 or 11, and Don't bets win when the
Come Out roll is 2 or 3. Don't bets tie when the Come Out
Roll is 12 (in some casinos it's 2; the 'bar' roll on the
table will signify which roll is known as a tie).
Crap - Term for the numbers 2,
3, 12.
Crap Out - Term used when the
numbers 2, 3, or 12 show on the first roll.
Dealer - The dealer is
responsible for all the bets made on his/her side of the
table. You should give the money directly to the dealer when
you want to make Free Odds, Place, or Lay bets in a casino
and let him/her make the bet for you.
Don't Come Bet - This is
when a bet is made against the dice after a Come Out Roll.
Don't Pass Bet - This is when e
bet is made against the dice before a Come Out Roll.
Don't Pass Bar - This is the
area just above the Pass Line and is a thinner band of felt
on the table where Don't Pass bets are placed. It is
basically the opposite of the Pass Line bet.
Double Odds - This is an odd
bet that is just about twice as large as the original
Pass/Come bet. You will find that some casinos might even
offer higher odds. Some will offer 5 times, or even 10 times
the odds.
Easy Way - This is a dice roll
of 4, 6, 8, 10 where each die has a different number on it.
Field Bet - This is a bet on 2,
3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12. You should know that this bet pays
even money for 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11. It usually pays 2:1 for
2 or 12. You will also find that some casinos pay 3:1 for
either the 2 or 12, but never both. Some casinos may make
the 5 instead of the 9 a Field roll.
Floor Men - These are the
people who are responsible for the games in the casino. You
will see them spend their time behind the tables watching
over the games. Like a Pit Boss or Box Man.
Free Odds Bet - this is a bet
taken on true odds.
Hard Way - This is a dice roll
of 4, 6, 8, or 10 thrown as pairs.
Hope Bet - This is bet made on
specific or particular dice combination.
Horn Bet - This is a bet that
the next roll will be 2, 3, 11, or 12, made in multiples of
4, with one unit on each of the numbers.
Horn High Bet - This is a bet
amount split into 5 parts. Two units on the 'high' number
(which is 12), and three units for the other numbers 2, 3,
and 11.
Insurance Bet - This is when
there are two or more bets in an attempt to partially cover
each other.
Lay Bet - This is a bet that a
particular (point) number will not be rolled before a 7 is
rolled. You should know that the casino will take a 5% of
the winnings on these bets. Most casinos will take this
commission up front.
Lay Odds - These are additional
odds bet against the dice. Making this bet is usually
referred to 'laying your odds' for your Don't bet.
Line Bet - This is a bet on the
Pass Line or Don't Pass line. These bets are placed at the
beginning of the game before the Come Out roll. A shooter
has to make a Line Bet in order to be able to shoot the
dice.
Little Joe - This is the Hard 4
roll. A pair of twos.
Marker Puck - This is the
plastic disk dealers use to mark the point on the table.
Basically, if the puck is turned to the 'off' side, then you
know all the Free Odds Bets have no action on the next roll.
Midnight - This is a bet placed
that the next roll will be a 12.
Off (or Odds Off) - This means
that certain bets will be safe on the next roll.
One Roll Bet - Like Midnight.
The outcome of these bets are established on the next roll
of the dice.
Parlay - This is when you leave
your winnings in action. Also know as letting it ride.
Pass Line Bet - This is a bet
stating whether the dice will win or pass. This bet is
usually placed immediately before a Come Out roll, but you
can make or increase this bet at any time. You should
know the house edge on this bet is 1.41%.
Payoff - This is the payback or
return a player gets for his/her bet.
Place Bet - This is a bet that
states a particular or place number will show before a 7 is
rolled. These bets are typically paid at a little less than
correct odds. This gives the house an edge of about 1.52% on
6/8, 4% on 5/9, and 6.67% on 4/10.
Pit - This is the area in the
middle of all the craps tables in a casino. This is where
you will see the Floor Men walking around keeping their eye
on play and the dealers.
Place Numbers - The
numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10.
Point (or Point Number) - This
is one of the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 that is
determined on the Come Out roll.
Playing The Field - This is a
common and very popular bet. Placing a field bet means the
player is betting that the next roll will be a 2, 3, 4, 9,
10, 11, or 12.
Pressing (a bet) - This is when
a player doubles the bet.
Puppy Paws - This is when the
shooter rolls a pair of fives. This slang term is used based
on the belief that many players think this roll looks like
actual paws.
Right Bettor - This is a player
that bets the dice will pass/win.
Seven Out - This is when a 7 is
thrown after a point is established. This means the next
player in line shoots the dice.
Shooter - This is simply the
player that is currently rolling the dice.
Single Odds - This is an odd
bet that is just about as much as the original Pass/Come
wager. You will find that some casinos allow 'double odds'
or even bigger odds bets.
Snake Eyes - This is betting on
the number two, or when the dice are rolled and they show a
pair of ones. This phrase comes about because many players
think they actually look like a pair of eyes, and they are a
bad roll for the shooter.
Stickman - This is the casino
employee that calls out the dice and returns the dice to the
shooter. They are also responsible for paying and placing of
proposition wagers.
Vigorish (Vigs) - These are the
house commissions taken from a particular or certain bet.
Comparable to taxing.
Working Bets - This refers that
certain bets will be at risk on the next roll.
Whirl Bet - This is a bet that
the next roll will be 2, 3, 7, 11, or 12, with the same
amount being bet on each number.
Wrong Better - This is a player
that bets the dice will not pass.
