Seven-Out – When the craps shooter loses by rolling a 7 before he repeats his point number. 

Shaker – The dice container in Sic Bo. 

Shill – A casino employee who poses as a player at slow tables, in order to attract other players. 

Shoe – The oblong box in blackjack or baccarat that holds the dealing cards. 

Shoot – A craps shooter’s entire series of rolls of the dice until he seven-out, also called the shooter’s hand. 

Shooter – The person rolling dice in craps. 

Short End – A wager that stands to collect more than it had to pay. 

Short Odds – A wager that has worse payoff odds than what the actual true odds payoff would be.

Shuffle Up – When blackjack dealers shuffle after every hand, in order to throw off card counters. 

Sic Bo – An Oriental dice game, in which bets are made on combinations rolled by three dice. 

Sick Gambler – A compulsive gambler.

Single Odds – When a craps player makes a free-odds wager equal to the size of his line bet.

Slot Arcade – A casino with slot machines only. 

Slot Floor – Where the slot machines are in a casino.

Slot Mix – A compilation of loose and tight slot machines, also nickel, quarter, and dollar machines. All machines are either progressive or straight, in order for the casino to maximize profits. 

Snake Eyes – A total of 2 on the crap dice. 

Soft Hand – A blackjack hand that counts an Ace as 11. 

Split – When a blackjack hand is divided into two separate hands, after being initially dealt two identical cards. 

Split Bet – A roulette bet that one of two numbers will win. 

Spot – An ‘X’ marked number, indicating bets on a keno ticket. 

Square Bet – A roulette bet predicting one of four specified numbers to win, also called                                   a ‘Corner’ or ‘Quarter’ bet. 

Stack – A group of twenty roulette chips.

Stand – When a blackjack player decides to not draw any more cards for their hand. 

Steaming – What a gambler is called when they are trying desperately to recoup their losses.

Stickman – The craps dealer who pulls in the dice after each roll, and pushes them to the shooter. 

Stiff – A blackjack hand that is dangerously close to exceeding 21 if another card is drawn, but is not good enough to call a pat hand; A hard 12 through 16.

Stops – The various places a slot machine reel may land on. 

Straight Slots – Slot machines with a preset jackpot and payoffs. 

Straight Ticket – A single wager keno ticket, also called a basic ticket. 

Straight-up Bet – A roulette bet predicting a certain number to win. 

Street Bet – A roulette bet predicting one of three numbers to win. 

Surrender – When the player regains half of his bet, after conceding his hand before                           drawing any cards. This is permitted in only a few casinos. 

Sweat – To watch a game, as in ‘to sweat a game’. 

Swing Shift – The casino shift between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
