FL panel
leaning to
possible 35%
slot tax
April 1
This is no
April Fools
joke. In
Florida, State
senators
are looking
at
the tax and
regulation
of slot
machines and
they had
many ideas.
First, a
tax rate
somewhere between 30
and 35%,
then, a cap on
hours, with no
limit on the
number of
machines to
be
available,
also banning
free drinks
and
prohibiting
players
under the
age of 21.
Senator
Jim King
seems to
think that
if laws were
to permit
anyone 18
and over
inside the
gambling
areas in
Broward
County,
parents
would
protest. It
is not known
where the
Senator got
his polling
results, if
the
statement
was his own
personal
belief, or
if a survey
was even
made.
At that
time, the
committee
didn't vote
on anything but
argued
issues that
will be
covered in a
bill to be
voted on
some time next week.
The
facilities
impacted are
all located
in Broward
county, they
include 3
race tracks
and one
jai-alai
facility.
