Iowa officials tour sites to get casino licenses
April 6
In Iowa today,
the five member Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission got on a chartered bus and started a two-day tour of anticipated casino sites.
A
t their very first destination was the site of a proposed $50 million casino on the Des Moines River. The Commission was met with pomp and circumstance with the mayor pleading an approval in order for the financially troubled area to recover from recent bad times. The casino is proposed in order to snap the immediate area back on its feet.
The next stop was in Emmetsburg, where there are two casino competing for approval.
The first proposal would put a casino, hotel and RV park on the edge of Five Island Lake. The second plan in Emmetsburg calls for a casino next to a car dealership.
After Emmetsburg, the tour headed north
stopping just before the Minnesota state line at the Top of Iowa Welcome Center, where developers propose building the Diamond Jo Worth casino.
When a
sked about their impending decision, commissioners declined to comment.
A final decision is anticipated May 11 or before.
