WTO
ruling on online
casino gaming
won't affect
Nevada
April 10
A
state official for
Nevada says that the
ruling made by a
World Trade
Organization appeals
panel on online
casino gambling
would not curtail
the state's right to
police its own
gambling industry or
change the Nevada's
ban on online casino
wagering.
In addition, a
casino industry
trade group says
the ruling most
likely won't
influence the
nation's commercial
casino business but
will likely impact
the horse racing
industry more
narrowly. The
nation's horse
racing industry is
governed by a
federal law.

In Nevada, a
state-wide law bans
online casino
gambling and Nevada
regulators have
chosen to enforce
the law since at
least 2002 when the
U.S. Justice
Department notified
regulators that
betting across state
lines is unlawful.
The state passed
online casino
gambling legislation
in 2001 but
regulators have yet
to approve any
regulations, saying
they would be too
complicated to
really impose.
Antigua and the
United States are
both claiming a
different outcome or
determination in the
ruling that was made
last Thursday.
