Progressive
Gaming wants to
buy VirtGame
January 28
Progressive
Gaming, a Las
Vegas gaming
equipment
supplier, wants
to make its bid
to be a major
player in
next-generation
casino games be
known. By
purchasing
VirtGame Corp.,
they hope to
make there
stand.
Formerly
operating as
Mikohn Gaming
Corp.,
Progressive
Gaming
International
Corp. announced
that it has
begun
negotiations to
buy the San
Diego based
company in a
stock deal
valued at $20
million.
Executives with
Progressive
Gaming said they
anticipate that
the company will
incorporate
VirtGame's
technology into
their CasinoLink
gaming systems.
VirtGame, has
created gaming
software
spotlighting the
delivery of
central
server-based
games. The
company has even
pitched the city
of Las Vegas
with a deal on
an Internet
casino in the
past.
Server-based
games are said
to be part of
the casino of
the future
because several
games can be
downloaded from
a central server
for use on
multiple
machines. Many
companies are
now creating
their own
server-based
systems for
consideration by
regulators.
Nevada
regulators have
not yet given an
approval for
server-based
games.
At this time,
Progressive runs
some 45,000 slot
machines and
1,500 table
games around the
world.
Company
officials have
said that they
believe an
agreement will
be made in the
next 10 days.
The deal also
would require
regulatory
approvals.
