Casino
boats
in
one
area
not
an
easy
win
in
court
April
11,
2007
As online gambling enthusiasts we can bet at the click of a mouse at home
from
the
comforts
of
our
own
computers.
We
have
access
to
great
online
games
whether
we
play
for
free
or
not.
So
why
is
so
hard
for
the
people
in
Georgetown
County
to
accept
the
fact
that
casino
boats
are
unwanted
in
the
Myrtle Beach
area?
That
is
because
they
love
gambling
on
the
water
and
they
want
casino
boats
–
just
like
we
love
gambling
online
or
anywhere
else
the
fight
is
on
in
Georgetown
County.
When our online gambling news department caught wind that there was a
battle
going
on
over
casino
boats
in
the
Georgetown
County
near
Myrtle
Beach,
we
found
that
the
Myrtle
Beach
Sun
News
has
reported
today
that
Georgetown
County
officials
solidified
their
resistance
to
casino
boats.
Tuesday
night
(last
night),
by
passing
third
and
concluding
reading
on a
decree
to
ban
gambling
vessels
whatsoever,
proponents
are
not
happy.
The report (in the paper) states that the final decree was actually modified
to
fit
the
language
dictate
by
the
state’s
General
Assembly
and
includes
the
same
guiding
principle
spelled
out
in
the
original
decree.
This
closes
the
hole
possibly
needed
by
proponents
to
get
the
boat
for
gambling
legalized.
The
county
used
home
rule
to
support
the
original
decree
to
keep
casino
boats
or
vessels
of
any
gambling
kind
out
of
local
waters.
It is also being reported that the city of
Georgetown
is
bearing
in
mind
a
similar
outlaw
and
will
have
second
reading
on a
decree
to
keep
out
casino
boats
there
as
well
next
week
at
some
time.
So,
those
in
favor
of
the
gambling
boats
have
a
long
if
not
impossible
road
ahead
of
them.
The decree has gotten the support of most City Council members and Mayor
Lynn
Wood
Wilson.
We
do
not
believe
from
what
our
online
gambling
news
department
can
tell,
that
there
will
ewver
be
any
casino
boats
in
this
area.
The decrees are up for deliberation because the General Assembly recently
gave
counties
and
municipalities
the
choice
on
whether
to
ban
casino
boats
or
not.
This
caused
a
whole
new
can
of
worms
to
be
let
loose
in
the
Georgetown
County
lawmaking
arena
that
is
for
sure.
Proponents
were
not
in
many
numbers,
but
the
proponents
that
did
want
the
boats
said
that
the
economy
in
the
local
areas
would
be
affected
in a
positive
way
as
well
as
millions
going
into
the
educational
fund
of
the
state
each
year.
Opponents to the casino boat simply said they were bad news and that started
the
decrees
to
be
legal
and
adapted
without
loopholes
fro
proponents
to
sneak
through
– as
they
say.
AS online gambling enthusiasts, we at least have the ability to game from
home
where
it
is
legal
in
the
world.
But,
those
living
in
the
US
cannot.
The
boats,
while
not
the
most
glamorous
or
even
profitable,
would
have
provided
some
fun
responsible
gambling
for
some.
Alas, there are other areas around the
US
that
have
gambling
cruises.
Keep
in
mind
though;
gambling
cruises
and
cruise
ships
in
general
tend
to
have
huge
house
edges.
So,
if
you
want
to
look
at
this
latest
snub
on
casino
boats
in
George
County
in
the
positive
way
–
would
be
gambling
fans
that
would
have
gone
on
the
boats
would
have
spent
a
lot
of
money
unnecessarily
by
playing
those
horrible
slot
payouts.
Seriously though, gambling boat proponents are not feeling the same way.
I
guess
they
will
have
to
head
to
Atlantic
City
– at
least
it
is
on
the
water.
So, we see the Myrtle Beach
and
George
County
area
of
the
US
will
not
be
seeing
any
gambling
boats
any
time
soon.
