UK
casino
ads
casing
legal
issues
April
10,
2007
In the ever growing issue about the legalities of UK casino ads (both for
or
against)
touting
casino
issues,
our
online
gambling
staff
has
learned
that
the
issue
may
have
escalated
as
to
what
is
actually
legal
and
what
is
not
legal
when
advertising
for
or
against
casinos
in
the
UK.
It is being widely reported that possible legal action was susceptible in
the
course
of a
growing
UK
argument
over
an
advertisement
aimed
at
voting
against
Blackpool's super casino attempt.
An irritated group of Liberal Democrats are taking into consideration
contacting
lawyers
after
they
were
named
in a
national
newspaper
advert
which
called
on
MPs
and
Lords
to
vote
against
their
town
as
being
a
proper
location
for
a
casino
to
be
developed
there.
There were 2 separate ads that were put in newsprint in an attempt to
draw
attention
to
not
passing
a
bill
for
a
casino
to
be
constructed
in
the
area.
The attack was put in print in two nationwide newspapers ahead of last
Wednesday's
critical
casino
location
dispute
in
Parliament.
It is also being said that these news ads were signed by a number of neighboring
politicians,
jointly
with
some
well
known
opponents
to
casino
construction.
In
the
ad
that
is
said
to
be
unfair,
it
called
for
Parliament
to
back
Manchester's
contentious
selection.
Steven
Bate,
Jon
Bamborough
and
Doreen
Holt
say
they
did
not
give
authorization
for
their
names
to
appear
in
the
ad,
which
went
not
in
favor
of
the
views
of
the
main
3
political
parties
in
Blackpool.
Additionally, the leader of the Liberal Democrats stated that the three
Liberal
Democratics
were
now
soliciting
possible
legal
actions
against
what
they
clearly
view
as
treachery.
The legal action, if taken, would be directly against the Noble Organization,
which
owns
and
operates
Blackpool's existing Coral Island complex. This is where the
money
for
the
ads
came
from.
The Coral Island casino resort simply does not want competition and has
resorted
to
interesting
tactics.
We
will
keep
our
online
gambling
news
readers
briefed
should
any
new
issue
arise
with
this
UK
casino
argument.
It has been a long road for the super casino issues all throughout the
UK.
For
many
months
on
end,
many
towns
were
seeking
the
possibilities
of
so
called
super
casinos
for
local
economy
boosts.
We have covered many online gambling articles regarding this long debate.
A
couple
of
years
ago,
we
reported
about
the
fierce
competition
from
many
huge
gaming
companies
from
Las
Vegas
such
as
Harrah’s
and
other
big
name
gaming
companies
that
were
all
trying
reallt
hard
to
get
the
bid
to
build
a
super
casino
in
the
UK.
The
debate
has
been
long
and
winding
with
some
not
in
favor
of a
huge
casino
complex
being
built.
Then
there
were
many
people
for
the
casinos
in
such
areas
as
Manchester,
Leeds
and
such
to
stimulate
the
economy
which
is
in
need.
Proponents for the casinos state that super casinos would produce thousands
of
much
needed
jobs
in
those
areas.
Opponents were concerned with problem gambling and the like. The casino
gaming
companies
replied
by
vowing
to
provide
adequate
education
regarding
problem
gambling
by
adding
this
into
the
communities
affected
by
the
possibility
of a
casino.
While opponents stood their ground in the matter, they did concede that
if
someone
was
predisposed
to
gamble
too
much,
casinos
were
not
totally
responsible.
New law has also been put into action permitting online gambling and online
casinos,
so
land
based
casinos
stood
their
ground
as
well.
So,
UK
lawmakers
decided
to
build
a
super
casino
and
the
debate
keeps
going
on
and
on.
What we are wondering is what will finally be the outcome after millions
are
being
wasted
in
debate
instead
to
production.
Now
that
online
gambling
is
lawful
in
the
UK,
we
are
all
wondering
why
the
struggle
of
land
based
casino
issues
persists.
Competition
seems
to
be
one
major
reason.
If it is not one thing, it seems to be something else.
What we can truly understand is that the casinos would indeed bring more
much
needed
jobs
into
the
communities.
From
the
construction,
to
completed
casino
workers
and
more,
the
local
economies
in
cities
such
as
Leeds
and
Manchester
would
be
boosted.
What’s more, these proposed properties are not all gambling, they would
also
contain
non
gambling
entertainment
as
well
as
resort
amenities
for
those
looking
for
holiday.
We will wait and see.
