ePassporte In the News Again

April 15, 2008

It would seem that ePassporte is looking to pull out of the US market for payment processing. Several sources have reported that the online gambling payment processing company is closing its doors to US residents. They mailed a statement to all of those companies that currently use their service for their online gambling customers.

They will no longer be an online gambling payment processor for online poker sites – but only for US residents. Even though they have reported it to their clients, they have not yet made an official statement to the press.

Some believe that they were “pressured” to leave the online gambling market by the US government. According to the letter, the closing of their doors to US poker players was in response to "a widespread investigation of Internet gambling, including poker, by the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Southern New York." They said that they didn’t feel that they had “done anything illegal” but were pulling out before anyone could basically think that they had done so.

They said that they did not want to be perceived as participating in any illegal goings on and thus felt it was best to stop offering the service. Players had noticed that they were no longer an option on many major online gambling sites, but without any official word they didn’t know why.

They heard through those companies that it would no longer be servicing that they had received information regarding the pull out. Players should be able to remove their funds from their accounts, but will not be able to put anymore in.
