| GamblingPhD menu | Apple Being Shut Out of Online Gambling April 12, 2009 It would seem that Microsoft Windows has the market for online gambling. Those that are currently using Apple computers may find themselves out of luck if they have a desire to enter the online gambling world. The major online gambling sites all use Microsoft Windows and there are no signs that anyone is looking to change their operating system. The number of Mac users as compared to Microsoft online gambling computer users is minute at best. Apple users are between three and five percent for international online gambling, and are the highest in the United States with a measly 15% of the industry. With so few people using Apple for their online gambling needs, it is no wonder that the online casinos are not looking to change the way they do business. In fact Apple is considered such a non entity in the online gambling world that most places dont even mention the operating system needed because it is just commonplace that it is Windows. There is a chance we will see a US player driven casino offer online gambling before we see it internationally, but even then the majority of sites dont even address the issue. In order to play with a Mac computer you have to opt for the Flash only version which means that there are options not available to you. Only Windows players can use the downloadable version which means they have a better experience than Mac users do. There are currently no signs to change this, and if you want to run a download version of an online gambling site, you may want to try running Windows on your Apple computer. Other than that, you will simply have to wait. Back to April 09 Archive. |
