| GamblingPhD menu | Taking the High Road April 24, 2009 There are two ways to go about getting things accomplished in life you can play by the rules and above board, or you can be sneaky and underhanded to get what you want. Both of these are ways of getting what you want, and both can work depending on the situation. However, for those that want to pursue the lower road, may we suggest taking the high road instead? Rep. Barney Frank is doing just that. He is bound and determined that he is going to take the high road when pushing through his bills as they pertain to online gambling even though he knows that this will make it more difficult to get it passed. Those in the government say that if he were to make it easier on himself he could resort to some of the tactics that were deployed when the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act or UIGEA was pushed through. But Frank says that this is not his style. Frank says that he is not going to go through the same way of getting it passed as ex Senator Bill Frist did when he passed the UIGEA. Instead, he is taking online gambling the long way around, but the right way around. He says that how Frist waited until the last moment to get the UIGEA passed was simply wrong, and he doesnt want to see this one go the same route. He said that he thought the passage of the UIGEA was inappropriate and he wants it to come forward for discussion and debate so that everyone gets to speak their peace. He is also planning on sending the online gambling bill through as a stand-alone bill which would let it stand on its own merits instead of being packaged in with a bunch of other stuff that has no place being there in the first place.
