Trump Indiana doubted by
analysts, loved by locals
August 6
Ever since Indiana's state Gaming
Commission picked Trump's company as their 11 casino in the
state last month, residents have been over the moon with
excitement regarding the $108 million project. The would be
casino is planned for southern Indiana that is said to be
elated at the prospect of new jobs, and a boost for local
communities.
Beyond the support of the state of
Indiana, there are a few analysts of the industry who
contend that the plan brought forward by Trump Hotels and
Casino resorts might not succeed. They say that this
evaluation is mostly due to the fact that the proposed area,
French Lick, is too rural. Being so isolated, they say, will
not be in Trump's favor.
Those who are in favor of the Trump plan,
are said to be patiently awaiting a long overdue renovation
of two rundown historic hotels in French Lick, Indiana. They
are looking forward to the chance at becoming a possible
Midwest tourist attraction.
With Louisville, Kentucky being the
nearest big city at over 50 miles away, some are questioning
whether Trump's company can meet the expectations everyone
has about this casino. Caesars Indiana, in nearby Harrison
County is said to a more convenient casino for those in
Louisville. Some say Caesars is a big name casino, but Trump
is just a big name.
Analysts say that they just
don't see the local base needed for perspective gambling in
the immediate area.
On the other hand you have
Trump's analysis stating it most definitely can make money
in French Lick. Given the level of initial investment, they
are positive that this will indeed be a success. There are
enough smaller cities in a close enough proximity to French
Lick that are said to be a good enough market. Adding a
first rate golf coarse, also a Trump passion, and a first
rate hotel resort will draw people other than just gamblers
it is said.
Additionally in the proposal,
Trump's company has been approved to build a manmade lake
and a riverboat.
The company has agreed to a
January 2006 deadline to open the casino, that comes with a
hefty fine of $75,000 a week in fines up to $1million, if
the property does not open on time.
What ever happens, many
locals aren't banking on overnight success, they don't
expect Trump to be built in one day. With down to earth
expectations of it's residents and small business owners, it
is easy to see why anyone would want to build there.
Trump also owns a casino in
Gary, Indiana, a town on Lake Michigan.
