Katrina victims aided by online gambling site auction

August 27, 2006

Some of our online gambling news readers can remember it was exactly one year ago today that Hurricane Katrina was poised to come ashore washing the hopes and dreams of tens of thousands of people away and leaving many dead. The Mississippi Gulf Coast casinos are just starting to get back on track too.

As online gambling players come to understand that the great city of New Orleans (and surrounding areas) is still under much duress even a year later, one online gambling poker room decides to help.

Nearly 50% of New Orleans citizens have yet to return to the city in fear of a lack in jobs, economy, and unstable plans to rebuild properly. Many of them never will return. If you have ever visited this beautiful city (before Katrina) you know how wonderful it was and how important it is that we get it back to it original state of glory.

ThePokerAttic.com has decided to step in and do its share of help for those in need. The online gambling poker site will be holding an auction where the proceeds go to victims and others in need. The online gambling related site will be run by Steve Morrow his Paradigm Poker Consultants' founder and also the president of the company. Also running the site will be a previous WSOP director and a previous poker room manager from PokerStars.com. Last but certainly not least, a Katrina victim will also be helping run the site.

Morrow himself has added may personal items to the site’s auction and the proceeds from their sales will go to the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund. It will be interesting to see who buys his personal memorabilia.

One of the coolest things about this charitable online gambling auction is that it costs nothing to register at the site, you only pay for what you buy.

When you enter the site, you will be able to see many items up for sale. It is reported that more than fifteen thousand items are poker related items alone. Think of this site as a mini eBay where items are poker related (for the most part) and up for auction and the revenue from some of these things will go to charity instead.

Here is how it will work. ThePokerAttic.com is holding a promo where there are no auction fees through the end of next year. All you have to do to become eligible for this promo is to sign up at the site before September 1st and donate $45 or more to The New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund. This charity will even send the seller a ReNew Orleans T-shirt for there contribution.

Additionally, sellers at the site will also have a right to use a free online book that explains how to sell items online successfully.

While the idea of this online auction site is to sell poker oriented items. Any seller can request new categories for other items that are non poker or online gambling related.

Be sure to set up your account before September 1st in order to get the deferred fee status that will have you not pay fees until the end of 2007. This is also the way to get in on the charity action. We recommend you visit the site for further and more detailed info.
