Updating the blackjack strategy of our generation

August 24, 2006

While this may not be an online gambling breaking news story – you should treat this article as if it were. After all, it is good advice and great news to many of you online gambling blackjack fans out there on the Internet.

Recently when I was playing blackjack in a casino In Atlantic City I found myself winning a lot more when I gave up the typical strategy and went out on my own. Was it just luck? I think it was because I strayed from the safety net of basic strategy and went out on a limb to win more cash aggressively.

All I can say is that when I sit down to a casino blackjack table and play the strategy to the tee, I either break pretty even or win a bit or lose a bit. I never win big. By bucking probability I was able to walk away from the table a winner of more money than ever before.

Some of the strategy I bucks was the most basic of blackjack strategy structure. I didn’t worry whether I was taking the dealers bust card. I didn’t worry about changing the order of the cards. I didn’t let the guy to my left piss me off when he took any of my would-be cards. Most difficult but rewarding for me was that I didn’t always assume the dealer had a ten in the hole. That was difficult but done! I didn’t even have the mind set that always taking even money is a sure thing.

Let me explain in a bit more detail where I was coming from in my mind when I strayed from the proper strategy that this game’s pros tell me to follow. Yes, there are four times as many 10s in a deck than any other card when playing blackjack, but by not accepting the dealer as someone holding a ten in the hole every time I got myself out many hands that would have pushed and instead I won them.
