Mohegan Sun casino loses power

August 23, 2006

Online casinos players are always aware of possible power outages at home when playing at online gambling sites, but just imagine sitting at a slot machine at Connecticut’s massive Mohegan Sun facility and having the power go out. Not the best of situations for any casino game player, but this casino handled itself well, but hit a few snags.

One local newspaper reported that the power outage at the casino happened around 3:30AM when a fire started at a transformer because it failed and overheated supposedly.

As many online gambling news readers would imagine, this put a bit of pressure on the head engineer at the Mohegan Sun. But soon after, all three of the casino’s backup generators kicked into gear just as they should have. Not so fast, they even stopped due to a switch on one of them that also caught on fire. The Casino of the Sky then lost power. This is a bit of drama right.

Nearly 2,700 slot games and some twenty-one additional casino table games at the Casino of the Sky section of the property were also out of operation until much later that morning. The sun came up over the Sun before power was finally beginning to show signs of recovery at about 9:30AM. It was not until nearly 12PM (noon) that the entire casino was back at full gaming capacity. Online casino news article readers are probably thinking that it was fortunate that the casino was out of commission during the overnight hours right.

In another section of the Mohegan Sun, things went on almost as usual. That part of the mega casino only lost use of one fifth of its casino table games and all of the slots were fully operational. Yet another part of the property, the Casino of the Earth had all of its slots up and running and also only lost usage of one fifth of its table games. The Casino of the Earth has about 3,700 slot machines itself.

Now, if you have ever been to this Connecticut mega casino or are familiar with it, you know it is huge.

As we mentioned earlier in this article to our online gambling fans out there, this happen mostly during overnight hours, but this is a very busy casino and the first part of the day’s loss caused nearly a thousand gambling enthusiasts to be out of gaming luck as far as gambling was concerned. Yes, the casino of the Earth was up and running as were other various sections of this huge casino resort, but when you go from full capacity to minimal capacity, room to play was at a premium. No word on what the casino thinks it lost in revenues yet.
