D’Amato
Still
Fighting
for
Online
Gambling
August 23, 2007
Former
New
York
State
Senator
Alphonse
D’Amato
has
been
fighting
for
the
rights
of
those
who
choose
to
partake
in
online
gambling,
as
he
himself
enjoys
a
game
of
poker.
He
thinks
that
the
U.S.
government
has
taken
a
stance
regarding
online
gambling
that
is
not
only
unfair
to
those
who
wish
to
partake,
but
is
shooting
itself
in
the
foot
when
it
comes
to
online
gambling
revenues.
D’Amato
says
that
the
government
should
be
regulating
the
online
casinos
and
then
it
could
get
a
portion
of
their
online
gambling
revenues.
Instead,
by
going
the
route
of
attempting
to
ban
those
who
want
to
play
by
saying
it
was
to
protect
them,
all
it
did
was
drive
those
who
still
play
into
the
arms
of
those
who
are
not
legit.
He
says
that
the
UIGEA
has
made
online
gambling
and
poker
playing
more
dangerous
than
it
was
before,
and
is
fighting
to
get
either
the
law
overturned,
or
regulations
put
in
place.
He
is
currently
serving
as
Chairman
of
the
Poker
Player’s
Alliance,
a
group
of
citizens
who
are
fighting
for
poker
players’
rights
everywhere.
As
there
are
currently
several
bills
working
their
way
through
Congress
that
would
impact
the
online
gambling
industry,
many
think
that
there
is a
good
chance
that
the
UIGEA
will
be
overturned
and
people
can
go
back
to
safe
online
gambling
again.
D’Amato
says
that
even
if
all
of
these
bills
fail
to
pass,
there
will
be
more
to
follow.
He
says
that
the
American
people
see
the
coming
times
and
“cooler
heads
will
prevail”
so
that
the
bill
is
overturned.
He
says
it
is
just
a
matter
of
time
before
some
bill
passes
that
will
change
the
way
online
gambling
is
currently
handled.
