Online
Gambling
Increases
August 30, 2007
The
internet
is
directly
responsible
for
the
growth
of
online
gambling
in
places
where
gambling
was
never
offered
before.
With
everyone
and
their
brother
now
able
to
access
online
gambling
from
their
living
room
–
people
who
wouldn’t
normally
go
to a
casino
find
themselves
gambling
at
online
casinos
instead.
We
are
a
country
of
convenience,
and
anything
that
makes
it
easier
for
us
we
are
going
to
take
advantage
of.
This,
of
course,
includes
online
gambling.
The
evolution
of
the
online
gambling
industry
has
only
increased
over
the
past
few
years,
and
the
passing
of
the
UIGEA
did
nothing
to
quell
that
growth.
In
fact,
the
UIGEA
brought
online
gambling
to
the
forefront
of
some
people’s
minds
who
hadn’t
even
thought
of
doing
it
before.
There
has
been
a
marked
increase
in
the
number
of
people
participating
in
online
gambling
since
the
UIGEA
was
passed,
some
say
coincidence,
some
say
as a
direct
result
of
it.
Either
way,
people
are
playing
in
droves.
People
like
the
fact
that
they
can
go
anywhere
in
the
world
online
and
play
a
game
that
they
might
not
feel
confident
enough
to
play
in a
casino,
but
will
do
it
in
an
online
casino
instead.
One
other
problem
however,
with
online
gambling,
is
fraud
and
deception.
Many
people
are
afraid
to
play
at
the
online
casinos,
and
in
some
cases,
rightfully
so.
The
passing
of
the
UIGEA
put
many
of
the
legitimate
payment
processing
places
out
of
business,
and
left
their
seedy
counterparts
in
their
place.
Places
like
NETeller
were
safe
to
use,
but
they
no
longer
exist
in
the
US.
Anyone
interested
in
playing
online
needs
to
do a
lot
of
research
before
they
give
their
online
gambling
account
to
just
anyone.
