Presidential
Candidate
Backs
Online
Gambling
August 24, 2007
With
online
gambling
being
such
a
hot
topic
these
days,
many
have
wondered
where
the
various
presidential
candidates
stood
on
legalizing
online
gambling.
None
of
them
have
been
forthcoming
in
their
support
or
condemnation
of
online
gambling,
until
now.
Congressman
Ron
Paul
has
thrown
his
hat
in
the
online
gambling
ring
by
supporting
online
gambling,
and
the
bills
that
are
currently
sitting
in
Congress
that
would
overturn
or
regulate
previous
legislation
banning
online
gambling
from
the
United
States.
Congressman
Barney
Frank
has
a
bill
out
there
that
wants
to
take
the
online
gambling
industry
and
regulate
it.
Paul
says
that
the
UIGEA
is
an
“outrageous
affront
to
individual
freedom”
and
it
should
be
overturned.
He
says
that
it
is
up
to
the
individual
as
to
whether
or
not
they
want
to
participate
in
online
gambling,
and
it
is
no
one
else’s
business.
He
went
on
to
say
that
as
long
as
the
online
gambling
patrons
are
willing
to
take
responsibility
for
their
actions,
let
them
gamble.
He
does
not
feel
that
it
is
the
government’s
job
to
regulate
the
internet.
Many
other
congressmen
have
already
voiced
support
for
the
bill,
which
is
getting
a
lot
of
attention
from
pro-online
gambling
groups
as
they
attempt
to
repeal
the
UIGEA
and
make
online
gambling
open
again
for
citizens.
If
Frank
is
successful,
many
of
the
online
bingo
operators
and
players
will
be
able
to
play
again,
as
it
was
one
of
the
biggest
industries
hurt
by
the
ban.
