| GamblingPhD menu | AGA Lobbyists August 21, 2008 The American Gaming Association continues to lobby Congress in hopes of getting online gambling legalized and regulated. The AGA is assuredly planning on keeping with this goal until a positive end is met, and is willing to spend the money necessary to get the job done. The AGA has many top land casinos on their list, and if online gambling is regulated, can expect many more online casinos to follow suit. In addition to lobbying for online gambling, they also cover tax legislation pertaining to casino gambling and patrons, as well as Hurricane Katrina tax bills and employee tip tax compliance. In the second quarter of the year, they spent $400,000 on lobbying, and it is expected that they will spend more in the third quarter. They know that in order to have your voice heard in Washington, you have to have money. During the April, May and June period, the group lobbied Congress, the Department of the Interior, the Internal Revenue Service, the Treasury Department and the White House. These are regular places for the group as they try to get their message across. The AGA also met with the federal government in regards to bills that would create a not-for-profit corporation to promote travel to the United States. They count some of the big names behind them like MGM Mirage and Wynn Resorts, and there is very little that they dont get accomplished that they put their mind to. |
