| GamblingPhD menu | Hows Biden with Online Gambling? August 28, 2008 Now that Barack Obama has chosen his running mate, the first question on online gamblers lips was whether or not he was friendly to the cause. It has long been speculated that if Obama were made president that there was a good chance that online gambling would be legal again. Now, they are waiting to see what his running mate thinks. Delaware Senator Joe Biden may not be negative towards online gambling, but he isnt positive either. During the past 35 years that he has served as a legislator, Biden hasnt made any comments one way or the other as to how he feels about online gambling. There is positive in the fact that he was just one of ten senators to vote against a 1998 bill that would set higher penalties for knowingly participating in online gambling. But he also voted for the Security and Accountability for Every Port Act of 2006 which included the Unlawful Internet Gambling and Enforcement Act. Now Biden was not alone in that vote 98 of the senators approved the bill with only one Democrat and one Republican voting against it. Biden is widely seen as moderately pro-legalization of online gambling, while Obamas record seems even more vague. Of course, John McCain is adamantly opposed to the legalization of online gambling, so where does that leave you? With McCain planning on announcing his choice soon he does have the opportunity to bring on someone very pro-online gambling and help himself out tremendously with the gambling community. |
