Maffei is On Board with Online Gambling

August 9, 2009

It seems that Rep. Barney Frank has gotten another supporter for his online gambling bill. Rep Daniel B. Maffei has joined the bill as a co-sponsor, making him the 51st co-sponsor. The online gambling bill has been gaining in both popularity and support by the day – with their biggest boost having come since Frank made his speech at the World Series of Poker.

Frank is getting support from both New York and California according to industry experts as the states seem to be very much in favor of online gambling being legalized. Maffei is from New York and his jurisdiction is Onondaga County, Syracuse, Central New York and up to Monroe County. It is a substantial district. The bill has gotten thirteen co-sponsors from New York already and has five from California as well.

The bill says that online gambling should be legalized and regulated by the US government. They say that they are not against government control as it pertains to the US online gambling industry, as they know that it is important to have checks and balances and an overseer of an industry that can be filled with those looking to rip off US citizens.

California has been making their own strides toward making online gambling legal within their state. They say that they can do intra-state online gambling as it is clearly allowed in the UIGEA. New York has been expanding gambling as well, and it is expected that they will work on possibly adding intra state online gambling as well.
