Online Gambling and the Written Word
August 13, 2009
Online gambling being paired up with newspapers seems like a strange thing to do. However, it is also a great way to keep newspapers around. In this economy there has been more than a couple of newspapers that have had to close their doors because people are saving money and getting their news online or from a television. Everyone says that the written word as it pertains to newspapers is dead – but what if they had a way to fix that? What if there was a possibility of keeping the newspapers?
But according to Mort Zuckerman, the Editor in Chief of “US News and World Report,” by teaming up online gambling and newspapers the one validates the other, while the other one supports the other. Zuckerman thins that by following what the British do, we might be able to save many more of these newspapers from extinction.
He says that the Brits allow those involved in online gambling to place bets on the newspapers’ sites which then allows the online gambling industry to support the newspapers – it creates a subsidiary for the papers. Zuckerman told “Forbes” the he though that online gambling was the best way to keep them afloat.
He says that if we don’t allow online gambling to come together with the papers that the papers are going to go out of business and you will see more and more cities without hard copies of papers. This makes it impossible for those that read a paper and don’t have a computer to get their news elsewhere.
