The rally would take
place a week after
the union said a
strike would begin
Friday, January
14th. As it happens,
that is the first
day of the Martin
Luther King Jr.
holiday weekend. The
union is seeking
more pay and better
health insurance
plans for the casino
workers involved.
A
spokeswoman for the
union, said talks
were ongoing
concerning the
contracts that cover
nearly 850 workers
at the
Blue Chip in
Michigan City,
Harrah's casino in
East Chicago, along
with the Majestic
Star and Trump
riverboats in Gary,
Indiana..
In September, when
over 90% of the
union members agreed
to allow a strike,
they began holding
talks with the
riverboats. Since
then, union
contracts have
expired.
