Khanawake
Sees
Fee
Increase
December

The
Mohawk
Kahnawake
Reservation
is
known
as
one
of
the
most
respected
and
successful
of
the
online
gambling
jurisdiction
licensing
agencies.
However,
things
are
tough
all
over,
and
they
are
not
exempt
from
that.
Located
just
outside
of
Quebec,
the
Canadian
province
has
been
attempting
to
exert
their
will
on
the
tribe
and
needless
to
say,
the
tribe
is
not
particularly
happy
about
it.
The
tribe
has
services
the
online
gambling
industry
for
the
past
8
years
ever
since
Sports
Interaction
received
the
first
online
gambling
license.
However,
lately
they
have
come
under
fire
from
the
government
who
says
that
they
have
been
acting
improperly.
Golden
Palace
Online
Casino
was
raided
last
year
and
now
has
to
pay
out
$2
million
in
fines.
The
case
stems
from
the
issuing
of
online
gambling
licenses
that
the
tribe
has
issued
–
more
than
400
in
all.
Experts
say
that
the
Quebec
government
is
building
a
case
against
online
gambling
and
how
much
of
it
happens
on
the
reservation.
However,
under
Canadian
law
the
Mohawks
should
have
the
right
to
issue
online
gambling
licenses
and
proceed
as
they
will.
The
government
says
that
they
don’t
have
the
right
to
issue
online
gambling
licenses,
that
only
the
Canadian
government
has
that
right.
Up
until
this
point,
the
Mohawks
and
the
Canadian
government
have
tried
to
stay
out
of
each
other’s
way,
but
with
this
ruling
it
would
seem
that
the
Mohawks
have
a
lot
more
to
worry
about.
