Golden
Palace
Ordered
to
Pay
Fine
December
11,
2007
The
Owner
of
GoldenPalace.com
has
been
ordered
to
pay
a $2
million
fine.
Cyber
World
Group
is
the
owner
of
the
online
gambling
site,
and
they
agreed
to
the
fine
after
pleading
guilty
to
charges
of
illegal
gambling.
The
site
has
been
known
in
the
past
for
the
kind
of
publicity
that
they
stir
up,
but
this
one
takes
the
case.
They
were
operating
the
online
casino
from
a
server
that
was
located
on
the
Kahnawake
reservation,
which
is
outside
of
Montreal.
The
servers
process
roughly
60%
of
the
world’s
online
gambling
traffic,
so
this
is
not
a
surprise
that
it
would
go
through
there.
However,
the
problem
stems
from
the
gambling
license.
The
CBC
reports
that
the
Mohawk
Gaming
Commission
has
approved
443
online
gambling
permits,
and
the
Kahnawake
band
council
does
not
feel
that
they
have
done
anything
wrong.
They
say
that
it
is
their
right
under
Canadian
law
to
proceed
as
they
have
been,
and
that
as
far
as
the
rest
of
the
world
is
considered
they
are
“doing
a
good
job.”
They
say
that
they
only
problems
that
they
are
having
is
with
the
Canadian
government,
and
that
they
do
not
respect
the
job
that
they
have
done.
Ever
since
the
raid
on
their
offices,
they
feel
that
the
government
has
been
coming
after
them.
However,
now
that
they
have
accepted
a
plea
there
is
nothing
else
that
can
really
be
done
about
it.
They
no
longer
have
the
option
of
exploring
any
other
options,
and
have
closed
a
possible
entry
into
another
way
of
looking
at
the
situation.
With
the
province
maintaining
that
they
are
the
only
ones
with
the
authority
to
give
out
gaming
licenses,
it
seems
that
there
won’t
be
any
satisfaction
for
now.
