Maria
Sells
To
Unibet
December
27,
2007
Maria
Invest
AB
has
announced
the
sale
of
all
of
their
online
gambling
that
is
part
of
Maria
Holdings
Ltd
to
Unibet.
The
deal
will
net
the
company
somewhere
in
the
vicinity
of
$109
million,
and
the
Malta
registered
online
gambling
group
Unibet
will
stand
to
make
more
than
that
from
the
registered
holdings.
Unibet
will
now
take
over
such
sites
as
MariaBingo.com,
Bingo.se,
MariaCasino.com,
CarlosPoker.com
and
CarlosPlace.com.
The
sites
are
well
known
among
online
gambling
enthusiasts,
and
many
of
them
are
wondering
how
the
selling
of
these
sites
will
affect
them.
For
their
part,
Unibet
has
been
attempting
to
increase
its
demographic
coverage
and
the
acquisition
of
these
online
gambling
sites
will
only
further
that
goal
for
the
company.
The
company
has
been
moving
in
this
general
direction
and
this
was
the
perfect
way
to
position
themselves
within
the
region.
The
Swedish
firm
of
Maria
Invest
will
strengthen
the
company’s
presence
in
the
Nordic
region,
one
of
the
areas
they
have
been
looking
to
not
only
expand
further
into
but
strengthen
their
holdings.
According
to
Petter
Nylander,
the
CEO
for
Unibet,
the
acquisition
will
allow
tremendous
growth
potential
for
the
company
as
well
as
allow
them
to
increase
their
holdings
in
the
online
bingo
market.
Nylander
says
that
they
are
already
the
“leading
private
gaming
company”
among
males
and
that
they
are
looking
to
make
it
that
way
for
their
female
players
as
well.
By
offering
more
choices
and
regions,
they
may
be
able
to
do
just
that.
Maria
Holdings
already
has
a
large
female
following,
which
will
enable
Unibet
to
increase
among
that
gender
group
with
the
acquisition.
