60 Minutes Piece Calls Out Online Gambling

There has been a lot of talk about how the online gambling industry has been run, and that the legalization and regulation of the industry is so very important now more than ever. However, just recently, 60 Minutes did a piece on the online gambling industry that showed that cheating was a real problem and not so subtly calling for the regulation of the industry.

Newspapers and bloggers alike grabbed a hold of that idea and used the piece as their Holy Grail � as though 60 Minutes doing a piece on the online gambling industry would make the government change their mind. They spouted it as though this was the final straw � all the while ignoring the fact that the US government has been trying to keep people from participating in online gambling because they said it wasn�t safe.

It wasn�t just the news media in the US either, columnists across the world took it as an opportunity to talk about why the US needed to regulate and legalize online gambling, or why their own countries should. They shouted that if the government would simply legalize online gambling they would truly be protecting their residents instead of hiding behind some moral compass that comes far from separating church and state.

The question remains as to whether or not this will have any affect on the online gambling industry other than getting everyone riled up again. It is surely safe to say that once Obama is back in office it may make a difference, but with the passage of the latest laws against online gambling by the Bush Administration you can be assured that they won�t be making any plans for legalization in the near future.
