Bush Sets Screws to Online Gambling Industry One More Time

December 7, 2008

Just when the world was rejoicing the win of President-elect Barack Obama and it seemed as though all could be right with the world again President Bush rose up to remind us that Obama is not yet in power and that there is still more he can do to screw the online gambling industry. Passing the latest regulations will not only ensure a hard road back for the online gambling industry, but also for the nation.

Many saw the online gambling industry as a possible way to make some money for the country, by regulating an industry that people are participating at anyway. The billions that could come from online gambling are astounding, yet, Bush and his cronies are determined to make it as hard for them as possible. With the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, they tried to make online gambling illegal, but failed. This latest attempt comes just as Bush is being ungracefully shown the door, and it is truly heinous in nature.

Congressman Barney Frank, a long suffering proponent of online gambling, is urging Bush to please repeal the latest regulations. Frank says that Bush is not just hurting the online gambling industry, he is also putting an additional strain on the banking industry, who can barely prop themselves up these days.

Frank says that the bill is hasty and not well written, and that it is merely trying to be pushed through before Bush leaves office. He says that it is just an attempt to tie the hands of the new administration and burden the financial services industry at a time of economic crisis.
