| GamblingPhD menu | Regulators Need Help with Corruption December 7, 2008 With the online gambling industry being so unregulated in so many areas of the world, it is hard for corruption not to seep into the pores of it and take it over. There are many that are battling this epidemic and trying to keep it from overtaking it, but they need help. There are many groups out there that are responsible for regulating sports betting, an area that is most widely considered easy for corruption. These groups are calling for help in battling illegal online gambling and match-fixing. The problem is that online gambling is a billion dollar a year industry, and according to a recent conference in Switzerland the biggest threat to the integrity of the sporting world. They say that they need an agency that investigates corruption across all of the sports, and they want global sports organizations like FIFA and the International Olympic Committee to help them battle it. They want them to work with them on forcing countries to regulate their national betting markets. They want those that dont participate to be excluded from international sporting events, and they wont be allowed back in until they agree to play by the rules. They say that these organizations have a way of making other countries comply by not allowing them to participate, nor would they be eligible to host events like the Olympics or the World Cup. They know that if they can get these organizations to help them that the countries would have no choice but to comply, thus ensuring that all sports playing is legal and on the up and up. |
