Online Gambling Scandals Investigated

December 23, 2008

It is no secret by now that the online gambling world is constantly being investigated by news paper reporters looking for their way of finding wrong doings. But it came as a surprise to just about everyone what they found in their recent attempt. The Washington Post and CBS News 60 Minutes did an in depth investigation of the online gambling industry and opened a hornets nest of deceit and non regulation.

It would seem that in the world of online gambling, regulation is left up to the players, and if they dont do it no one will. It spoke about the deal with Absolute Poker where they had a man on the inside taking money from those that were playing poker at the online gambling site. The players were the ones who noticed the problem and they were the ones to take him down.

The idea is that the governments ban of online gambling was to try and protect their residents, but in doing so they have actually left it up to them to police it themselves or get taken by another player. The first part of the series was Hunting the Internet Poker Cheats, and described the events that led up to poker players on the online gambling site Absolute Poker having to hunt down the cheaters on the site.

The second part was about Should Internet Gambling Be Legal? This one talked about the fact that these scandals make it seem very clear that online gambling should be legalized and that it not being regulated was more of a problem for residents than regulation would be.
