| GamblingPhD menu | US Behind the Times December 21, 2008 The global online gambling community is aware of the fact that the US is behind the rest of the world when it comes to online gambling. This is simply a fact given the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA. Whereas many countries are looking at how to regulate online gambling and enforce those regulations all the while making billions of dollars off of it the US is spending their time trying to keep people from participating. The problem with this is that they arent doing that. Residents are still playing at online gambling, and the only thing they have managed to do is put them in more danger from unscrupulous online casinos than they ever were before. Now some of the online gambling sites are taking matters into their own hands. Bwin is one of the leaders in the online gambling industry, and they have recently partnered with Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School Teaching Affiliate. They are working on ways of making it safer for their clients to participate in online gambling. They are looking for actual evidence, cold hard facts, that would make the online gambling experience safer than ever before. They want to keep online gambling fun, but they want to protect their players from those out there that would seek to do them harm and they want to protect them from themselves in case they are developing an online gambling addiction. They have basically taken on the corporate social responsibility for online gambling. Back to December 08 Archive. |
