Dutch Online Gambling
Doesn't Care

When it comes down to it the Dutch just don’t
care what anyone has to say about anything. They
are not going to allow an online gambling
presence in their country that is not run by
their state owned operator De Lotto. All the
complaints that they are running an online
gambling monopoly fall on deaf ears as they just
are not planning on changing anything.
Not that people haven’t tried to get them to see
the error of their ways for both Betfair and
Ladbrokes have taken them to court to be allowed
to operate their online gambling sites in the
country. Betfair went to the European Court to
get their license approved to offer online
gambling when they were turned down by the
Dutch. Ladbrokes was offering their services to
the Dutch people and the government came after
them and put an end to it. They are serious
about keeping online gambling within their
borders.
The European Court said that they had the right
to give a license to an online gambling operator
to operate within the country, and the Dutch
told them basically that they don’t recognize
their authority to do that and still won’t let
them in. The advocate general said that this was
not really correct because they had to get bids
from several places and get competitive bids and
this was not done.
It would appear that the Dutch courts don’t
really care whether you have bids or not – they
don’t seem to be opening their doors to any
online gambling operation that isn’t within
their borders.
