Germany and
Portugal Being Difficult

The online gambling
industry has worked hard to gain whatever leverage and steps that they
have gotten at this point. Within the United States it is obvious that
there is a growing movement to see online gambling legalized within the
country. Our government officials have stepped forward from both sides
of the aisle to show their support of the online gambling industry.
However, other countries are not faring as well.
Both Germany and Portugal have taken steps to make sure that online
gambling remains illegal within their countries. This is unfortunate
because there are many within the industry that would truly like to see
it legalized, but there are also many citizens within these countries
that would like to see them legalized as well.
In Germany not only have they tried to keep online gambling a monopoly
within their country based on the various laws that they have passed,
but lately they have also taken to attacking sports shops that sell
football shirts that have the logo of the online gambling company Bwin
on them. The online gambling company sponsors the team, which is why
their logos are on the shirts.
In Portugal they have put the focus on supporting their state owned
casinos instead of the online gambling industry. They are rewarding
anyone who plays at these state owned casinos, even going so far as to
reward one employee who embezzled millions of Euros from his employer in
order to gamble at one. It is a disturbing trend.
