Obama and Legalized Online Gambling
December 27, 2009
The question that is really on everyone’s minds these days is whether or not online gambling will ever be legalized, and if it will come at the hands of our new president. Many voters actually voted in President Obama because they hoped that he would make online gambling legal again. They knew that John McCain was opposed to online gambling as he was very clear in his stance on it, but Obama has never been very clear one way or the other.
Ex-President Bush managed to alienate a lot of other countries by making and keeping online gambling illegal even after fines and sanctions had been put against our country. We have been given more time over and over again to reverse our policy on online gambling, but we have still not set forth to do that. There is plenty of legislation out there that would make online gambling legal again, but still no movement forward for that to happen.
Obama has not come forth yet to declare a position on online gambling, although Vice President Biden has seemed as though he was a proponent of it. But many are hoping that he will at least see fit to speak with the European Commission and the United Nations to come to some kind of conflict resolution where online gambling is concerned.
With the majority of Americans either for online gambling or at least in favor of legalizing it for the tax benefits that would come from it, it is no wonder that there is so much pressure these days for it to be legalized. Now Obama just has to step forward and make it happen.
