Riley Caught Gambling?

It was a harmless bet, but the media could not wait to jump on it and show that Governor Bob Riley of Alabama was a two faced liar. Indeed, the man should be flogged and ran out of town – for he has just proved to everyone that he is a gambler and just doesn’t want anyone else to have any fun at it except himself.
Seriously folks, it all comes down to a harmless bet between two governors, and it has been made into something so much more. Riley made an offhand comment to Florida Governor Charlie Crist saying that Alabama was going to win their game against Florida, and they bet a case of Florida oranges against Alabama’s Dreamland Bar-B-Que. From this the media got that Riley was a gambler and not to be trusted on how he has been handling the slot machine debate in Alabama.
The media has said that instead of this being a simple fun thing between two states that it is simply showing that he is against online gambling and slot machines, but not for himself. Somehow this bet has turned into a comment on the online gambling industry within the state of Alabama and not anything else.
Anyone who knows anything knows that online gambling and slot machines within your own state really are two separate entities. Online gambling is a whole other subject and is not sitting in your back yard the way that a slot machine would be. This is not a comment on the state of online gambling within the state of Alabama, nor is it a comment on the slot machines themselves – in fact, it was simply a governor showing pride and confidence in his own state’s team.
