Court Rules for Online Gambling Site

February 25, 2009

In a surprise turn of events, a Washington Court has ruled that the online gambling site Betcha.com is legal. The state of Washington is very tough about their online gambling laws and has been bound and determined to keep it out of their borders. With Betcha.com they said that they were an online gambling site which made them illegal and they wanted them gone and prosecuted.

However, the courts have ruled that they might be an online gambling site in one sense of the word, but that they werent truly illegal. They said that as the site does not make you pay if you lose a bet it can not be considered a true online gambling site. Online gambling players would place bets with each other, not actually with the site itself, making it legal as well.

The way the site worked is that players would hook up with each other and bet on pretty much anything that they could think of. If they won they would be paid by the other person. If they lost they were supposed to pay them. However, according to the rules they dont actually have to pay, which keeps it from being an illegal site.

Now, if they dont pay they get a negative rating, much like the one that eBay uses, but other than that there arent any real consequences other than the fact that others would not want to place bets with them. With the online gambling site being based on trust, they were legal.
