| GamblingPhD menu | Online Gambling for an Economic Stimulus Plan February 13, 2009 It is interesting to note that although pretty much everyone is agreed that legalizing and regulating online gambling would lead to billions of dollars of revenue for the country, still lawmakers are against it happening. This is particularly interesting when you look at the studies that have been run in reference to online gambling. Many of those that are against the online gambling legalization bills say that by legalizing it you are asking for trouble. Their argument is that the number of online gambling addicts that would be created is far too high a price to pay for the money that would come from them. They say that by putting online gambling in everyone�s living room the country would be giving them too high of a temptation. However, recent studies show that even with online gambling legalized, the number of people that would then become online gambling addicts has been greatly inflated. They say that there could be gambling addicts that turn to online gambling in order to satisfy their gambling cravings, but that just means that they are not going to the casinos � and that is just geography. They contend that insinuating that just because you can now have online gambling in your living room that you will become an addict is just too far of a reach.
