Hope Springs Eternal

Online gambling has a love hate relationship with our government. They love the idea of the amount of money that could come from regulating the industry, but they hate the fact that even though they banned it people keep playing it. With the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA, the US thought that they could stop online gambling, but it didnt quite work out that way. Instead, online gambling is flourishing against their best intentions.

The online gambling industry has the ability to bring in a lot of money for the country, but even more than that, if it were to be legalized it could get us out of a whole lot of trouble. Both the World Trade Organization and the European Union are coming after us for not allowing online gambling from countries other than our own, and up until now we have pretty much said that we dont care.

However, that only works for so long, and with a new administration in there it seems that that stance may be changing a bit. Those online gambling companies that were part of the US until the passage of the UIGEA want satisfaction as does the tiny country of Antigua. They want billions of dollars from the US to make up for their money lost, or they want the US to start allowing online gambling again.

No matter what, the time of sticking our head in the sand is over and we have to face facts. We are going to be penalized and punished for not allowing online gambling in our country. If we act now, we can hold that off, and we can make much more money for our budget as well.
