| GamblingPhD menu | Online Gambling Ban Getting Lifted? February 27, 2009 It is only a matter of time before it becomes a reality, but online gambling is going to be legal. It will probably happen this year, but it may be next before it happens, but with a mostly Democratic government and many of its supporters being pro online gambling it is an inevitability that must be faced by those that are not so keen on it happening. Rep. Barney Frank is as usual out in front working to make it happen for everyone. He has spent the last few years working hard to see if he could get the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA overturned, or at least get online gambling regulated. He has pointed out time and time again that the best way or the government to make money is to legalize and regulate online gambling and that they would see the money that was bound to come from it but no one has been listening. Well, Mr. Frank, they are listening now. Frank has legislation pending that he is going to introduce to Congress next month that would set the wheels in motion for making online gambling legal again. The bill would overturn the UIGEA and would protect us from the various sanctions that we are currently facing through the World Trade Organization and the European Union. If Frank has his way, later this year, online gambling will be legal and it will be regulated and we will all be the better for it. Now, we just have to get the government to act on what they hear him saying. Back to February 09 Archive. |
