| GamblingPhD menu | Malaysia Online Gambling Raid February 8, 2009 When people think about online gambling and those countries that are just a little behind in the race they usually think of the US and the passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA. However, what they dont think about is all of the other countries that dont allow online gambling either. A perfect example of this is Malaysia. Malaysian police raided an online gambling den last week, and seized thirty computers that were being used for the purpose of finding online casinos and whatnot. The cybercaf was located at Jalan Air Itam in Malaysia and took many in there by surprise. They say that they are not interested in arresting those that are doing the online gambling; rather only those that are running the cybercafs that are allowing it to happen. They want the people who are letting them participate in online gambling and are bound and determined to put an end to the illegal operations. They say that they have been working with officials statewide to crack down and eliminate online gambling in Malaysia, but are only interested in the operators. They say that those that are simply hanging out and gambling with friends are none of their concern. Their latest bust is just one in many more to come. The talk is that most assuredly the US is going to overturn the UIGEA and make online gambling legal again in the US. However, Malaysian government says that they have no plans to follow suit.
