Online Gambling Scams

February 10, 2009

Senator Nick Xenophon is outraged by the way that the online gambling industry has been behaving. They think that they are using deceit to entice online gambling players to come to their sites, and in doing so it seems just short of breaking the law to him. He says that the online gambling industry is exploiting their countrymens desire to increase their revenue by saying that they are going to help them play for free when it is anything but.

He says that he would call them parasites, because what they are doing is they are playing on people's vulnerabilities. There's no such thing as a free bet. They know people will get sucked in and hooked and they'll make back their money many times. Xenophon says that he has been watching the practice and is now looking to do something about it.

He says that not only are they going to create online gambling addicts with their methods, but that those who already have an online gambling problem will be tempted to gamble because it seems like such a good deal. It is not new that the online gambling industry is trying to entice players to come to their casinos because they are offering free money but Xenophon says that the way they market it has to change.

Xenophon is trying to get the Australian government to ban this kind of marketing as he says it is deceptive and deceitful. He wants the online gambling sites to stop trying to hook more players by luring them in with money that is anything but free.
