Alabama May be Changing Their Tune

February
24, 2010

There is a meeting of the Senate this week that could see gambling legalized in Alabama. The Senate needs twenty one votes to make it legal, and some say that there is a real chance that it is going to happen. They say that the fight against slot machines would stop and that they could see millions of dollars in much needed revenue flowing into the state.

This is a huge deal for the state as they already have an existing task force that is working to crack down and eradicate all slot machine gambling in the state. They say that it is illegal and that they need to get it out before it does any more damage. They say that although bingo is legal in the state the electronic bingo machines are nothing but slot machines and those are not legal.

But some say that if they allow slot machines to be legalized in the state that it is opening a whole can of worms. They are worried that slot machines will lead to table games and ultimately online gambling and then the state will become a cesspool of crime and gambling addicts. They understand that slot machines might be the way to get additional revenue in, but it is also a way to bring in more crime.

There are those in the Senate that have already wondered what online gambling could do for them. They are curious as to how much money it might be able to bring in. With other states already looking into online gambling legalization, they want to know whey they wouldn’t do the same. In fact, some think that instead of bringing in casinos, they could save a lot of time and money and just legalize online gambling in the state and then they would have much less overhead.
