Online Gambling Has a Proponent in Chinchilla

Costa Rica is known for
their support of the online gambling world. There are many online
gambling companies located in Costa Rica and they do not feel that it is
something that should be illegal. The online gambling sector has its
problems of course. They are constantly worried about tax legislation
and future criminalization, but at least it is legal in the country.
But now that they have a new president some were worried about how she
might feel about the online gambling industry. Their new president,
Laura Chinchilla is the first woman to be named to the presidency in the
online gambling Mecca’s history. But the online gambling industry should
not be too worried – after all she has already shown that she is very
supportive of the online gambling industry.
Back in 2006, BetOnSports was indicted by the United States government
for offering online gambling. The US wanted the country to extradite
their then CEO David Carruthers and send him to the US. However, as
online gambling is legal in the country of Costa Rica they told him no.
Chinchilla said that since he was only accused of online gambling, they
could not extradite him. The US government then needed to wait
until they could catch him switching planes in their borders in order to
get him.
Chinchilla is all for legalized online gambling, and she said that she
welcomed “all Costa Ricans of good faith” to their country. She also
thanked all of the women who had come before her as they made it
possible for her.
