Europe Only Looking Out for Minors
February

There are those within
Europe that only want to see online gambling legalized and are not
overly concerned with the logistics of how that might happen. They want
everyone to have a fair and equal shot at allowing online gambling and
to make money off of it, but they are not really thinking about laws and
checks and balances that need to be in place to protect some citizens
from themselves.
This is where the MEPs come in. They are pushing for common rules to
regulate the online gambling industry so that minors cannot access
online gambling sites. They are asking Internal Market Commissioner
Michel Barnier to ensure that these rules will protect those that are
underage from accessing the online gambling sites and developing
possible addictions to online gambling.
They say that the online gambling industry “can be regulated and must be
regulated” if they want to offer online gambling across state lines.
They said that as of right now there aren’t any rules or regulations
that pertain to the online gambling industry and that this cannot
continue. They say that they are putting all of their minors at risk by
not having a way to ensure that no matter where you are you will not be
able to gamble if you are underage.
The European Court has said that it is the right of the nations to
regulate online gambling, but as of right now there is no way to monitor
it. The laws seem to change per country and no one seems to know what
anyone else is doing. They said that the need for some kind of a
strategy is at an all time high. They said that they need to give their
citizens the right to participate in online gambling if they choose to,
but they must protect their younger members from themselves.
