PPA is Fighting
with Frank for Online Gambling

The Poker Players’ Alliance
is probably the biggest group fighting along side Rep. Barney Frank to
see online gambling legalized. The group is probably representing some
of the largest areas lately that have been hit by the online gambling
ban due to the seizures that have taken place by the federal government.
The poker players have long maintained that they don’t fall under the
umbrella of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, or UIGEA,
because poker playing is a game of skill. Therefore it is not really
gambling, and should not be considered online gambling. They have fought
this battle in many states as well, and they have been ruled against and
for. Some states agree that poker playing is a game of skill –and
therefore should be legal.
The online gambling community is also fighting to be legalized, but they
also realize that they are in fact a gambling entity. Many within the
online gambling industry also agree that any game that the player has
influence over the outcome should not be considered gambling – rather a
game of skill. The PPA is bound and determined to have poker removed
from the online gambling definition, but they need your help to do it.
They have launched a mailing tool that will allow people to enter their
zip code which will help them send an email directly to their
Congressperson letting them know that they want online gambling
legalized. You can customize the letter that you send to show what type
of online gambling you prefer – casino or poker. They say that they know
that they still have a long battle to fight, but they think that if they
make their players aware of the fact that they are still fighting for
their online gambling rights that they will get more support and
assistance with it.
