The Race is On

For all of you that counted
New Jersey out of the gambling mix now that they are competing with so
many states around them, you don’t know New Jersey very well. This state
is probably considered one of the roughest, toughest states out there
today – and they are bound and determined to keep that reputation.
Someone along the way said that they were going to try and bring in
online gambling to support the casinos now that their slot machines and
table games were not unique – and everyone else has jumped on the idea.
It is brilliant really. The passage of the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act or UIGEA has made it illegal to offer online gambling
but only if you let it go outside your borders. New Jersey isn’t looking
at that – they want to see online gambling in their borders – and they
are going to be offered by the existing casinos. The idea is that any
casino in Atlantic City that wants to would be able to offer their
services in the online gambling arena. The rules would not be any
different, and they would be regulated and licensed.
The state would not open any additional casinos – instead all of the
online gambling would come from those existing casinos. The casinos
think it is a great idea as they know that they would be able to come to
their residents no matter where they live. Those residents that
currently go over to PA for their gambling needs because the casino is
closer – would simply sit in their living room and play at online
gambling there.
There are those that are not happy with the bill of course. There are
those that say that online gambling would only serve to increase the
number of compulsive gamblers out there today. The state is ignoring
those cries for now and is moving forward as fast as they can so that
they can start getting additional revenues in the state.
