There are those that would not have believed it, but it would appear that there was their very own online gambling ring going on just under their noses. An Ontario Country man, Joseph J. Fafone has been accused of running an illegal online gambling business.

Fafone helped build BetOnline.com and is considered one of the ring leaders of the online gambling ring. He was arrested along with 30 others on charges of “bookmaking” this past October. He maintains that he is innocent of the charges, but the authorities say this is simply not true.

They say that Fafone and his group made more than $587 million through the online gambling business that they were running. They said that Fafone was trying to leave the country for Panama when he was arrested at the airport. Sources close to Fafone say that he was not fleeing the country; he was simply going there as his online gambling site is a legally licensed business in Panama.

The company is legal over there, but is not authorized to offer bets to those patrons that live in the United States. When the online gambling company was contacted they said that they had no knowledge of anything that had taken place over there, and that they tried to limit their businesses within the country and those legal areas that they are permitted to be in. They refused to give any further information regarding the charges. Fafone continues to express his innocence, but now it is up to the courts.
