UK
Gambling
Commission
Shut
Out
January
27,
2008
The
UK
Gambling
Commission
has
chosen
to
shut
out
two
very
large
online
gambling
groups
from
advertising
in
the
UK
via
their
white
list.
Both
the
Mohawk
Council
of
the
Kahnawake
in
Canada
and
the
country
of
Antigua
were
told
no,
and
will
not
be
able
to
join
the
list.
Antiguan
Director
of
Gaming
Kaye
McDonald
said
that
they
were
disappointed
in
the
commission’s
decision,
but
they
were
hopeful
that
they
might
gain
admittance
to
the
list
in
the
future.
If
they
did,
they
would
be
joining
countries
such
as
Alderney,
Isle
of
Man,
Tasmania
and
the
European
Economic
Area
countries
on
the
exclusive
list.
McDonald
says
that
they
don’t
know
if
they
need
to
reapply
because
they
were
in
the
process
of
applying
when
they
were
told
that
they
would
not
be
getting
on
the
list.
They
think
it
has
to
do
with
a
decision
being
made
to
the
advertisers
so
they
are
going
to
continue
with
the
online
gambling
advertising
application
that
they
had
already
started
to
submit.
However,
Kahnawake
is
considering
legal
action
against
the
commission.
They
say
that
because
of
their
“long
standing
reputation
as
the
world
leader
in
[online
gambling]
Internet
regulatory
compliance
and
enforcement”
they
don’t
know
why
they
would
not
be
afforded
the
same
considerations
as
Tasmania
considering
they
don’t
have
the
same
history
or
safeguards
that
Kahnawake
does.
They
say
that
they
want
to
know
the
process
that
was
taken
when
considering
their
application
as
they
do
not
feel
that
it
was
a
fair
process
and
that
they
were
somehow
discriminated
against.
They
say
that
their
recent
troubles
with
Absolute
Poker
notwithstanding,
they
have
an
almost
impeccable
record
when
it
comes
to
online
gambling.
